Mwandi, a remote village in Zambia's Western Province, has long struggled with unreliable electricity access. With no connection to the national grid, residents relied on kerosene lamps for lighting, limiting economic activities and educational opportunities for children. Local health clinics faced challenges preserving vaccines and running essential medical equipment. In 2025, Kuoman Solar partnered with the Zambian Ministry of Energy and a local NGO to deploy a community-scale solar microgrid using our High-Strength Aluminum Frame Solar Panels, providing clean, sustainable power for the first time.

The Challenge

• No grid connectivity within 50 kilometers.

The Solution
Kuoman Solar proposed a turnkey 50kWp solar microgrid featuring 108 units of our KM-460W High-Strength Aluminum Frame Panels. Key advantages included:

• 1500V DC Compatibility: Reduced balance-of-system costs by enabling longer string lengths and fewer combiners.

• IP68 Junction Boxes: Dust and waterproof protection in arid conditions.

• Easy Installation: Pre-drilled frames and MC4 connectors accelerated deployment by local workers trained by our engineers.

The system integrated with 100kWh lithium-ion battery storage and smart inverters, providing 24/7 power to 200 households, a school, and a health clinic.

Implementation
Our engineering team conducted a site survey in March 2025, optimizing panel tilt for maximum year-round yield. Installation took six weeks, with hands-on training for three local technicians. The system was commissioned in June 2025 and has been operating flawlessly ever since.
